Nikhil Tailang

Hello, I'm Nikhil Tailang.

I'm a designer and a maker. I'm excited about the role of intelligent machines in shaping our tools for creativity and productivity. Computer programming, faceting gemstones, astrology, hacking plants, pizza, and aeroplanes excite me a lot. I am always up for learning something new. I wish for a world where people are not afraid of technology and live in a symbiotic relationship with technology. I am 13629 days old. This website contains some of my old work.

You may drop me an email at hello at nikhiltailang dot com

Concordia

Concordia is an operating system designed to rethink the fundamentals of how we
create content on a computer

The kind of content that we create and share today is no longer restricted to text and images like the old times. Most of the digital content we create today eventually resides on the web. With its interactivity, integration and real-time nature, the web gives us an engaging multimedia experience. Our creation tools, however, have not kept up. We still leave a lot to what file formats and the applications let us do, often sacrificing our creativity. Concordia changes how we create, share and manage digital content. After applications and apps, it reimagines what is next.

Create

Concordia OS takes a fresh approach to interaction with computers, eliminating concepts of Applications and File Formats. A single gesture takes you straight to the Creation Space where you see the Surface and Modifiers.

A Surface is where you create your content. It frees you from the limitations of a file format and lets you create digital mixed media content without having to jump between applications. They also let you group your creations like a project while making it simple to keep your shared resources in sync.

Modifiers are the next step after applications and "apps". They are highly focused but powerful tools that let you manipulate your content. Select something on the Surface, and contextually relevant Modifiers will show up on the top. Each modifier does just one thing and operates on any kind of content. They free you from the learning curves of complex applications and let you follow workflows that suit you. In Concordia, all websites are Surfaces, so any content that you see online, be it images, text, videos, music or interactive experiences, can be edited with your own Modifiers letting users create and publish Content Remixes.

Modifiers free developers from rebuilding core functionalities for every new idea of theirs and lets them focus their efforts on creating innovative ways to empower digital artists. Apart from the built in modifiers, creators can purchase and download more from the Modifier Store.

Collaborate

With collaboration features built right into the operating system, Concordia OS takes co-creation to a whole new level. Add people to your projects and you can share parts or whole of the Surfaces from your project. When you give editing rights to a collaborator, your Modifiers are shared with them, and theirs with you, so that everyone gets access to the same tools without worrying about mismatched application versions. With shared Surfaces, Modifiers and integrated chat, everyone stays on the same page, quite literally.

Manage

All the content you create or download gets added to the Content Timeline. Concordia OS analyzes the content and automatically adds intelligent tags that let you easily locate your content. You can find your visual content by shapes of objects, scenes, time, faces of people and geolocations. Music compositions can be located by instruments or by playing notes on a MIDI input device. Automatic topic detection and words help you find documents and stories. You can also find your creations using the names of collaborators.
